Good week, missing snow, packages came.

Mr. Potato Snowman
aka...Idaho African Snowman

Hello! This week has been a good week, but I am missing snow after looking at all the pictures of it. IT Doesn't seem like it is winter or close to it.

Anyways...on Tuesday, we had a good day. We taught a few new investigators that are really awesome. Really looking forward to continue teaching them.

On Wednesday.....we had to wake up early to take Elder WIlson to the Airport for MLC in Uganda. Then we headed back home and squeezed out as much sleep before 6:30 as we could. ha.Then Me and ELder Myers headed to K2 for the day. It was fun driving and being completely in charge of the area for a couple days. It was a good day until we found out that we weren't having Thanksgiving dinner with the Leibel's that night. Tough day......

On Thursday I went out with Elder Gondwe for the day. It was a good day, but it is always hard to have very promising people in the Gospel and find that they have problems with some of the commandments. It makes missionary work harder, but that is why it is called work. It isn't always going to be smooth or easy. It also makes they day when they overcome that problem and become converted to the Gospel that much sweeter. It also rained really hard for like an hour that day. It made it really hard to teach. We were yelling it seemed like to hear each other. Also there was lightning that struck right next to the house we were in and the loudest and the most fantastic thunder I have ever heard. It was great! Then we picked up Elder Wilson from the Airport and I got 2 packages. Yeah! Thanks Famiy. I especially love the candy. It is the best.

Friday we had a short day becuase the rest of the day we were doing baptism Interviews for all the other branches as well. It is good to see the 3 branches having  success. It is a good time here in Kigali the work is strong.
On Saturday we cleaned the font and got everyting ready for the Baptism on Sunday. Also we got lost and had a tough time finding people's homes this week, but with the spirit we were able to find all the homes. It is hard with me not having a very good memory and Elder WIlson only being here 3 weeks.

On Sunday, we had Peace and Heritier's baptism. Miracle, the other sibling will be next week because of a very important conference she had to attend. It was really awesome. Everything went well. After the Baptism we were invited over for a party/food thing. There were some powerful testimonies shared there and this family Marthe, Kennedy, Anne Mary, Peace, Heritier, and Miracle is very strong and powerful. They are a great family. Lots of great things happening here in K2 branch.

This week I have learned that we need to have confidence not in ourselves, but Our Savior and also the spirit. We can always trust in them. They will always succeed. A couple scriptures that stood out to me this week were D&C 68:6 and Moroni 8:16 They are great scriptures of comfort to me. Anyways thank you for the love and support. You are the best. Love You.
Love Elder Beck

ANSWERS TO MOM'S QUESTIONS:
1. I'm going to stop asking but let me know if you ever get a letter or package from us!
ACTUALLY I DID JUST GET THE TWO PACKAGES THAT YOU SENT. I OPENED ONE, BUT AM SAVING THE CHRISTMAS PACKAGE. SEE ABOVE, HE GOT 2 OF THE 3 PKGS WE HAVE SENT AND HIS DRIVERS LICENSE THAT HE HAD TO GET A NEW COPY BECAUSE IT WAS STOLEN A WEEK BEFORE HE LEFT.  NOW THAT'S A STORY.  HE HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY LETTERS YET.

2. How are you sleeping? how’s the mattress? I'm assuming you are in a twin bed?  Do you use mosquito netting?
I AM SLEEPING WELL. WHEN ELDER EMPEY LEFT I TOOK HIS MATTRESS AND NOW I AM SLEEPING LIKE A BABY.  YES I USE THE MOSQUITO NETTING, BUT I STILL AM SOMEHOW GETTING SOME MOSQUITO BITES.

3. How would you describe the people in Rwanda? THE PEOPLE IN RWANDA....... HMMMMM THAT IS HARD. LET ME THINK ABOUT THAT THIS WEEK.

4.Have had contact with many Muslims?  I (mom) had read about radical Muslims coming into Africa?   MUSLIM'S HERE ARE REALLY BIG. THERE ARE A TON OF MOSQUES. WE TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM MUSLIMS, BUT WE ARE ACTUALLY TEACHING A MUSLIM RIGHT NOW. SHE WANTS TO SWITCH TO CHRISTIANITY, BUT IT IS SOMEHOW PROBLEMATIC WITH HER FAMILY.

5. Dad tells me that the missionary couple in Rwanda is from Blackfoot? If so, that's a small world.  YES MOM, THEY ARE FROM BLACKFOOT

6. How was Thanksgiving dinner?  NO WE DIDN'T GET THANKSGIVING DINNER.  SOMETHING CAME UP. BUT WE WORKED HARD THAT DAY.  YES THE COUPLE IS FROM BLACKFOOT. THANKSGIVING DINNER WAS A NO GO. FOR A COUPLE REASONS, SO IT REALLY HASN'T FELT LIKE THANKSGIVING JUST ANOTHER DAY.

7. It has been fun to look up information about our ancestors online, do the people of Rwanda do genealogy?
GENEOLOGY IS A REALLY COOL THING AND I WISHED I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN MORE INTO IT AND TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF LEARNING ABOUT MY ANCESTORS BEFORE MY MISSION BECAUSE HERE IN RWANDA THERE IS ALMOST NO GENEOLOGY WORK HERE. PEOPLE THEY KNOW THEIR PARENTS, BUT OTHER THAN THAT THEY DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEIR FAMILIES. IT IS TO BAD, BUT SOMEDAY ALL THOSE PEOPLE WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO HEAR ABOUT THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST. THE PLAN OF SALVATION IS PERFECT AND IT BRINGS ME JOY AND WHEN I TEACH IT, IT BRINGS JOY TO OTHERS AS WELL. ALSO I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT WE AS A FAMILY GET TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER. BEING HERE ON A MISSION HAS MAD ME REALIZE HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU GUYS. AND GIVEN ME AN EVEN STRONGER APPRECIATION, JOY, AND TESTIMONY OF THE PLAN OF SALVATION.

8.  What do you love best about being a missionary?
WHAT I LOVE MOST ARE THE PEOPLE. ESPECIALLY THE MEMBERS AND INVESTIGATORS WE HAVE. THEY MAKE ME LAUGH SO MUCH AND THEY HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH EVERYTHING.

OTHER NEWS IN HIS MISSION. The pope came to Uganda with his entourage and guards.  Many of the missionaries got to see this.

Cool moon outside my window...beautiful... hard to capture
